III.2.1 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 20, summer triclinium and garden area. Semi-circular pool, looking south.
According to Jashemski –
“The semi-circular pool (3.00m wide; 0.95m deep) in front of the triclinium had 12 fountain jets around the edge and another rose from the small column (0.39m high) in the centre of the pool. A pipe leading from an amphora placed on a large masonry pillar in the north-east corner of the peristyle carried water to both the jet in the middle of the table and to those in the pool. Spano suggests that this device was used to supply water after the aqueduct was damaged by the earthquake.”

According to Wilhelmina, the low wall built between the eight stuccoed columns (which were white stuccoed above the wall, and black stuccoed below) was also painted black and decorated with clumps of plants.
