V.1.26 Pompeii. March 2009. Room "p", north wall, and north-east corner, with purple/violet zoccolo/dado, and white middle zone.
According to PPM, the zoccolo was decorated with panels separated by narrow compartments decorated with flowers amongst palms.
In the middle of the north wall, at the rear of the alcove, Mau saw “without a cornice and on a white background, the noted group of Mars and Venus.” ………. In the side panels, seen on the left was a flying figure, on the right a standing Cupid. He could not recognise any particulars in one or other of the figures. (See Mau, BdI, 1876, p.220).
See Carratelli, G. P., 1990-2003. Pompei: Pitture e Mosaici: Vol. III. Roma: Istituto della enciclopedia italiana, (p.613, no.82).
