V.1.29 Pompeii. Shop of M. Tofelanus Valens, rented to Auxilio.

Possibly excavated 1748 and 1875.

On the pilaster, to the right of the entrance, there used to be an electoral recommendation:
Casellium  aed(ilem)
Auxilio  rog(at)     [CIL IV 3439]
According to Della Corte, the shop was rented by an Ausilione (or Auxilio) from the owner of the neighbouring house at V.1.28  See Della Corte, M., 1965.  Case ed Abitanti di Pompei. Napoli: Fausto Fiorentino. (p.103)

V.1, Pompeii. May 2010. Wall painting showing the first picture found in the excavations of the Civita “garland with mask of bearded satyr, and bird resting on the festoon”. Now in Naples Archaeological Museum.  Inventory number 8591. It was possibly found in the area of V.1.29/30/31 near the crossroads of the Via Stabiana and Via di Nola.
However, PPM (III, 540), thinks that the excavations started in April 1748 at V.1.18, House of the Epigrams.

Wall painting showing the first picture found in the excavations of the Civita “garland with mask of bearded satyr, and bird resting on the festoon”.

Now in Naples Archaeological Museum.  Inventory number 8591.

It was possibly found in the area of V.1.29/30/31/32 near the crossroads of the Via Stabiana and Via di Nola.

However, PPM (III, 540), thinks that the excavations started in V.1.18, House of the Epigrams, in April 1748
