According to Gell – “Bones of chests brick crusted in the marble, inside brass, outside iron, handles, locks, rosetts, nails, etc of bronze. In first chest 45 gold and 5 silver coins, ancients had excavated in room behind and made a hole through the wall and got most of the money !!! “ See Gell, W. Sketchbook of Pompeii, c.1830.
