VI.12.2 Pompeii. December 2006. Looking north across first garden from rear of tablinum window, towards exedra and rear peristyle. According to Jashemski, this peristyle was enclosed on all four sides by a portico supported by twenty-eight columns covered with fine white stucco.
These columns were in the process of being repaired at the time of the eruption. In the middle of the garden was a base of a marble fountain, from which water jetted into a shallow pool. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.145)
