According to Garcia y Garcia, the house received its name from four glass discs found in the plaster in the walls of a cubiculum.
Two of the preserved ones were incised with the figures and attributes of cupids which were then inlaid with gold leaf.
During the bombing in the night of 16th September 1943, a bomb fell in the street outside this house.
The shaking caused by the explosion led to the ruin and irreparable loss of the half-medallion from the east wall.
See Garcia y Garcia, L., 2006. Danni di guerra a Pompei. Rome: L’Erma di Bretschneider. (p.96).
According to PPM –
“Actually only the medallion to the left of the rear wall was found in situ, the others have been lost.”
See Carratelli, G. P., 1990-2003. Pompei: Pitture e Mosaici. V. Roma: Istituto della enciclopedia italiana, p. 791.
