VIII.5.24 Pompeii. May 2010. Looking east across peristyle from south-west corner.
According to PPM –
In the south-east corner of the peristyle, between the columns was a low small wall which, around its inside, was decorated with a series of painted panels in IV Style: some of those representing Nilotic scenes have been cut and taken to Naples Museum, while those that showed, for example, a lion chasing a deer or roe deer... a marsh plant... a rooster... an ibis pecking at a toad (see Mau) remained in situ and have been destroyed by time. These were on a red background.
