VIII.7.31 Pompeii, May 2018. Roof reconstruction drawing from information notice-board.
On the long side ran a cornice (sima) with the heads of roaring lions as waterspouts.
On the ramparts was a flat band with a painted meander whose base took the form of the body of a snake with heads facing towards the upper corner of the pediment.
A revetment plaque with guilloche (an engraved pattern of spirals, intertwining bands etc.) in relief protected the wooden beams of the roof.
