The flooring was made of a mosaic of black tesserae arranged with the dots of large white tesserae in lines.
A broad band of white tesserae marked the edges of the impluvium.
On the four corners of the impluvium would have been brick columns covered in stucco.

VI.17.41 Pompeii. May 2006. Mosaic door threshold between atrium and triclinium.
The threshold of black and white mosaic shows a 4-petalled rosette bordered by a black edge.
On either side of the mosaic threshold, the holes for the door hinges belonging to a door with two shutters, can be seen.
In the upper left corner, the “carpet” pattern of the anteroom floor consisting of small black crosses set in a black border, can be seen.
VI.17.41 Pompeii. May 2006. Mosaic floor in triclinium on south side of atrium.
The mosaic floor of this triclinium was divided into two parts, the anteroom and the main room.
The mosaic in the main room was of a net design of diamond shapes (lozenges) outlined in black on a white background.
It was bordered by two wide bands of black and white mosaic, at the base of the walls the floor was of white mosaic.
The lack of mosaic (at the lower edge of the photo) was probably due to the removal of the threshold between the anteroom and the main room by the Bourbon excavators.
The mosaic floor of the anteroom was of a “carpet” design edged with a straight black band, in the centre of the “carpet” on a white background, was a pattern of rows of crosses, formed by four small black tesserae.
