VI.12.2 Pompeii. December 2006. Puteal in peristyle.

According to Jashemski, the rear peristyle was enclosed by 43 stuccoed columns.

Below the two middle columns of the south portico there was a marble puteal, and beside it a marble table supported by a winged sphinx with the feet of a dog.

Fragments of two statuettes were found in the garden.

Anne Laidlaw, the Director of Excavations of the House of Sallust, has confirmed for us that it is in fact from the House of the Faun. See Laidlaw, A., 1985.
